Monday, October 4: Tour "The Breakers" and free time in Newport We will drive from Providence to Newport this morning. The city of Newport has preserved colonial industry and gilded-age splendor like no other place in the country. We start our day with a tour of The Breakers – the 70 room “summer cottage” of Cornelius Vanderbilt II – probably the most opulent of Newport’s mansions. From here you may choose to visit other mansions in the area or explore Newport on your own. There is a wonderful walk along the harbor that allows you to walk along the sea wall and see the ocean-side of several mansions. Newport is also known for its sailing community. If you’re passionate about wind flowing through your hair you may want to investigate a sailing tour of Newport harbor or just visit the Museum of Yachting. After Newport, we will drive to Hyannis where we will spend the evening. (B)
Tuesday, October 5: Day Trip to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket You have a choice of visiting Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket today by high-speed ferry. At the conclusion of the day we will have dinner together in Hyannis. (B,D)
Wednesday, October 6 - Drive to Boston with stopover in Plymouth; JFK Presidential Library This morning we will depart Hyannis for Boston with a stop in Plymouth MA. This part of the drive will take us along the coast visiting quaint towns and enjoying spectacular views. In Plymouth we will step back in time to the Mayflower II and Plymouth Rock, marking the Pilgrims' 1620 landing site. We will then continue on to Boston to tour the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. You will enter the recreated world of the Kennedy Presidency for a “first-hand” experience of John F. Kennedy’s life, legacy and leadership. (B)
Thursday, October 7 – Tour of Boston and free time; Return to Providence; Farewell Dinner Today we begin with a tour of Boston to familiarize yourself with this lovely town and what it has to offer. Later the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You might want to explore the Boston Common and Public Garden, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and the Harvard Museum of Natural History, where you'll see a lifelike Glass Flowers Exhibit, just to name a few of your many choices in this beautiful city. We will have an early dinner before returning to Providence. (B,D)
