Saturday, December 4 - General Jackson Cruise, Grand Ole Opry You will have some free time this morning. You might want to enjoy the beauty and grandeur of The Opryland Hotel, one of the nation's most spectacular hotels. During the holidays the hotel features artwork, handcrafted gifts, and antiques for holiday giving. We then board the General Jackson, styled in the grand tradition of the paddlewheel riverboats, for a lunch, entertainment and mid-day cruise down Nashville's Cumberland River. This evening we will attend country music's grandest show--the Grand Ole Opry. The Grand Ole Opry began as a radio show in 1925, just five years after commercial radio was born in the United States. The Grand Ole Opry celebrates country music's diversity and audiences can expect the best in country, bluegrass, comedy, gospel, and more. (B,L)
Sunday, December 5 - Hermitage Tour, Radio City Christmas Show Our first tour takes a look back in history with a visit to the home of Andrew Jackson. The Hermitage is the most authentic early presidential home in America. We will visit the formal garden, slave quarters, and the original log cabin Andrew and Rachel occupied in 1804. The 1,100-acre plantation was once home to 150 enslaved African Americans who worked the farm, cultivated the gardens, tended livestock, baled cotton, and cared for the home and its guests. This afternoon we will attend the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the world famous Rockettes. This live production has dazzling scenery, costumes and lighting making it a special afternoon. Later, enjoy one of the many restaurants at the hotel with your fellow travelers. (B)
