Monday, 21 Aug 2017: Travel to Waterton Lakes National Park (B)
We will spend two days on the Canadian side of Glacier National Park known as Waterton Lakes National Park. In 1932, these parks became the first ever International Peace Park (a World Heritage site). Waterton is where the Canadian Rockies meet the vast rolling prairies, so there's an incredible variety of flowers and animals. The area is a haven for moose, elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep, and both grizzly and black bears are found in the park. We will visit Red Rock Canyon today and enjoy a 45-minute hike to Blakiston Falls before arriving at our hotel in the park. Overnight Waterton Lakes - 2 nights
Tuesday, 22 Aug 2017: Waterton Lakes NP; Cameron Falls; Peace Pavilion (B,L)
Today we spend time exploring much of what this park has to offer. One of the most photographed scenic spots in Waterton is Cameron Falls. Cascading over 1.5 billion-year-old pre-Cambrian rock, this stunning natural wonder can be experienced up close so that you can actually feel the refreshing Rocky Mountain spray on your skin. We'll have lunch in the village of Waterton and enjoy a lake cruise.
Wednesday, 23 Aug 2017: Glacier National Park; History of Plains Indians; Boat Tour (B,D)
Glacier National Park is one of the United States’ most treasured natural landscapes with glacially carved valleys and dramatic mountain peaks. Glacier has the most intact natural ecosystem left in the lower 48 states, and we’ll have an opportunity to view many of the species that call it home, including the mountain goat, the park’s emblematic animal. We will discover a spectacular side of the park not visible from the road with a scenic boat ride across Two Medicine Lake. Afterward, we visit the Museum of the Plains Indian to learn about the history of the historic arts created by tribal people of the Northern Plains. We'll enjoy dinner together tonight. Overnight Glacier National Park - 2 nights
Thursday, 24 Aug 2017: Going to the Sun Road Tour; Free Time (B)
One of the most amazing highlights of Glacier National Park is the Going-to-the-Sun Road, considered by many to be one of the most scenic drives in the entire US. This engineering marvel is a 52-mile drive through the park's wild interior and crosses the Continental Divide. Our tour will highlight Glacier's natural features relevant to the Blackfeet Nation, past and present. Spiritual and philosophical perspectives are interpreted in Blackfoot life and commonly used plants and roots for nutrition and medicine are pointed out. Our guides are life residents of the reservation, knowledgeable in many facets of Blackfeet tribal history and culture. After our tour there will be free time to explore this fascinating park on your own terms. There is plenty to do: ranger-led walks, talks and hikes or plan your own adventure.
Friday, 25 Aug 2017: Free Morning; Drive to Bozeman; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
