B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner
Saturday, 22 Jul 2017: Arrive Seattle; Welcome Dinner (D)
Arrive no later than 4:00pm. Take local transportation to the hotel. Your tour begins at 6:00pm in the hotel lobby where we will make introductions and then have our Welcome Dinner to get better acquainted. Should you arrive earlier in the day, relax or go exploring. Overnight Seattle - 2 nights
Sunday, 23 Jul 2017: City Tour and Pike Place Market; Afternoon Free Time (B)
We will begin the day with a tour of the Emerald City concluding at Pike Place Market, the oldest continuously operating market in the nation and the heart and soul of downtown. Seattle's public market offers a multi-sensory experience of sights, sounds, tastes, aromas and textures. Here you can grab lunch and perhaps eat outside at Waterfront Park soaking in the gorgeous views of Puget Sound and watching the ferries ply the water. This afternoon is free to spend as you wish. It's a great time to head over to Seattle Center and take in the Space Needle, the Chihuly Garden & Glass or the Experience Music Project.
Monday, 24 Jul 2017: Drive to Olympic National Park; Afternoon Hiking (B)
After breakfast we depart for the scenic drive to Olympic National Park and begin to see clearly why Washington is called the "Evergreen State." Covering nearly one million acres, Olympic National Park provides three distinct ecosystems—glaciated mountains, rugged Pacific coastline, and lush temperate forests. Over 95% of the park is designated wilderness, protecting one of the largest wilderness areas in the lower 48. We'll stop at the Visitor Center at Hurricane Ridge for 360-degree views of the snow-capped Olympic mountains and the sparkling waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. On a clear day, you can even see to Canada. We'll then continue on to historic Lake Crescent Lodge, built in 1915 along the shore of crystal-clear Lake Crescent. Hiking is a natural way to explore the Olympic Peninsula. Short or long, leisurely or invigorating, you'll find a great variety of hikes here that reward you with breath-taking vistas. Overnight Lake Crescent Lodge - 2 nights
Tuesday, 25 Jul 2017: Sol Duc Hot Springs; Relax at Lake Crescent (B,D)
After breakfast, we'll drive to the Sol Duc Valley and walk along the trail through old growth forest until we reach the very pretty Sol Duc Falls. If you'd like to take a longer hike, we'd suggest the 6-mile Lover's Lane Loop, one of the most popular hiking trails in the Sol Duc area. For those interested, we'll make time to soak in the mineral waters of the Hot Springs (price not included in the tour). Later this afternoon, we'll return to Lake Crescent Lodge and spend time enjoying this area. Perhaps you'll want to hike to Marymere Falls...the trailhead is just minutes from the lodge. Or you might be interested in getting out on the lake itself; there are kayaks, canoes and paddleboards available to rent at the dock. This evening, we'll enjoy dinner together in this wonderful setting.
Wednesday, 26 Jul 2017: Hoh Rain Forest; Ruby Beach (B,L)
Today we pack up and head to west side of the park to visit the moss-drenched Hoh Rain Forest, one of the finest remaining examples of temperate rainforest in the US and one of the park's most popular destinations. The Hoh receives as much as 170 inches of rain every year (that's 14 feet!), plus condensed mist and fog contribute another 30 inches. We'll walk the gentle Hall of Mosses path and the Spruce Nature Trail for photo ops that are other-worldly. It's then on to the Pacific Ocean, with a stop at Ruby Beach. Olympic beaches are unlike any other; a tremendous amount of enormous driftwood piles up on shore and large sea stacks (rock islands) stand sentinel just off the coast. At low-tide, these areas offer up intriguing tide pools to explore. When we're ready to call it a day, we'll head to our new accommodations for the night, Lake Quinault Lodge, a grand and rustic lodge built in 1926 on the shores of shimmering Lake Quinault. After checking in, choose to hike some of the 8 miles of inter-connected trails around the lodge or simply relax in the lodge's sauna and heated pool. After dinner, you may want to take in a sunset lake tour, a spectacular way to end the day.
Thursday, 27 Jul 2017: Free Morning; Return to Seattle; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
The morning is free to relax or explore further the area around Lake Quinault. We complete the Olympic loop and return to Seattle this afternoon. After checking in and time to freshen up, we'll gather for our Farewell Dinner. For convenience sake, we'll stay near the airport. Overnight Seattle Airport Hotel - 1 night
Friday, 28 Jul 2017: Return Home from Seattle (B)
Sadly, it's time to say goodbye to the lovely Pacific Northwest. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish.
