Schedule arrival into Jacksonville Airport no later than 3:00pm. Once everyone has arrived, we will drive to our hotel in St. Augustine. After check-in and some time to relax we will enjoy a welcome dinner to get better acquainted. Overnight St. Augustine - 2 nights
Friday, 31 Mar 2017: Morning City Tour; Free Time; Sunset Cruise (B)
St. Augustine is the oldest, continuously occupied European settlement in the continental US. It is home to some of America's most historic sites including: the 17th-century fortress Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas national monument, the Oldest House dating back to Florida's first Spanish period between 1565 to 1763 and the more recent history of railroad tycoon, Henry Flagler from the late 1800s. This evening, we will view St. Augustine's historic charms from Schooner Freedom, an authentic replica of a 19th-century blockade runner.
Saturday, 1 Apr 2017: Kennedy Space Center Tour; Cocoa Beach; Group Dinner (B,D)
Today we gain a better appreciation of the American space program as we tour the Kennedy Space Center. We'll see the historic Apollo 8 launch site and the massive 363-foot-long Saturn V moon rocket at the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Touch a moon rock and watch in wonder as that magic journey to the moon is brought to life. Overnight Cocoa Beach - 1 night
Sunday, 2 Apr 2017: Leisurely Drive along Coast; Fairchild Tropical Gardens (B,L)
We depart Cocoa Beach at a leisurely pace and drive south towards Miami. Along the way we'll find a place to stop and have lunch. This afternoon we pay a visit to the lovely Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, considered one of the best botanic gardens in the world. Since 1938, Fairchild has been dedicated to exploring, explaining and conserving the world of tropical plants. The moment you enter Fairchild you are transported to the tropics. Walk under the exotic vine pergola and take in the fragrance of the flowering vines. Visit the Tropical Flowering Tree Arboretum to discover the allspice tree with quilted leaves smelling of the warm spice. Or simply find a bench to relax. There is so much to do and see here, it provides a wonderful respite from our drive. Overnight Coral Gables - 2 nights
Monday, 3 Apr 2017: Everglades National Park; Shark Valley Tram Tour; Airboat Ride (B)
After breakfast this morning we venture out into the Everglades, the country’s only subtropical preserve. The park protects an unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. We get oriented with a tram tour that takes us deep into the park where the scenery is spectacular and we're likely to see alligators in the wild. This afternoon, we climb aboard the swift airboats and fly across the surface of the water. What a blast!
Tuesday, 4 Apr 2017: Miami Beach Art Deco Walking Tour; Free Time; Farewell Dinner (B,D)
Miami Beach's Art Deco District is the first 20th-century neighborhood to be recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, with 800 structures of historical significance, most built between 1923 and 1943. The fanciful pastel buildings, with porthole windows, ship-like railings, sleek curves, glass blocks, shiny chrome, and gleaming terrazzo floors are prime eye candy. Upon completion of our tour, the remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the beach or boardwalk before we have dinner together in the South Beach area.
Wednesday, 5 Apr 2017: Return Home from Miami (B)
Sadly, our time together has come to an end. Depart at your convenience. Based on the departure time you provide WTT, your Tour Leader can assist with organizing travelers into small groups so you can ride-share to the airport if you wish (cost not included).
